Being a Las Vegas wedding photographer for several years has taught me many valuable lessons about getting married in Las Vegas. The first of which is this—a Las Vegas wedding is always a good idea. Whether you are just getting started on your Las Vegas Wedding Planning journey, you’ve been planning your special day for months, or you’re on your way to Vegas for an impromptu ceremony as we speak, here are some helpful tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way to keep your special day running smoothly.

Step One: Get inspired while wedding planning

The first step in planning a Las Vegas wedding is to get inspired and start your research. Gather ideas from wedding magazines and check out the photo galleries of Las Vegas photographers to get an idea of what it is that will make your heart soar on your wedding day. It may be helpful to start a wedding folder or binder to keep your ideas and notes organized throughout the process if you have the option. And consider contacting a wedding planner to help you get all the details in the early planning stages straight.

If you are planning a Las Vegas wedding on the fly, it is still important to incorporate your own sense of style on your wedding day, even if it’s in a smaller way. Don’t sacrifice the small details, especially if it’s something you’ve always wanted and dreamed about.

Step Two: Researching and Budgeting for A Vegas Wedding

Coming up with a budget will help to keep your dreams in line with your reality in the research stage of wedding planning. Decide how much you would like to spend on your special day, and keep in mind any gifts of money you may receive from loved ones.

The Knot’s 2021 Real Wedding Study showed that the average wedding cost in 2021 was $28,000, or $34,000 if you include pre-wedding expenses. In comparison, the average Las Vegas wedding costs anywhere from $3,250-$10,495, if you are choosing an all-inclusive option from one of the many venues available. Also, there are ways to reduce this cost even further if you choose partial packages or opt for an outdoor ceremony.

That being, a Las Vegas wedding significantly cheaper option than a traditional wedding. This is great news for you, but it is important to keep in mind travel expenses, resort fees, and all the extra cash you are going to spend on having fun while you are there.

Step Three: Choosing the right Las Vegas wedding venue

Choosing a Las Vegas wedding venue can be overwhelming because of the sheer number of amazing options the city has to offer. As a professional photographer in Las Vegas, I have had the pleasure of experiencing several of the city’s stunning venues. From the Bellagio to the Little Vegas Chapel, there are so many great options. It may be helpful to have a flexible mindset and choose a couple of different options if you are in a time crunch and want to be sure to secure a spot.

Also, if you are planning a Las Vegas wedding on short notice, it may be helpful to be flexible with the date of your wedding and give yourself a window of a few days to potentially get married. A weekday is a surprisingly good option, as they tend to be less busy. Once you have chosen the date and booked your flight, it’s time to start putting together a guest list and choosing your vendors, wedding photographers, and videographers.

Step Four: Choosing a Professional Photographer Las Vegas style

Las Vegas photographers come in all different styles. It is important to have a vision of what you want your photos to look like before choosing a photographer. Browse the galleries of a few different Las Vegas photographers to see if they match your style. Most wedding photographers will also be your photographer for engagement and elopement sessions as well.

It is also important to consider where you would like your pictures taken. Las Vegas strip wedding photography is always fun to incorporate on your wedding day as it provides a fun energy level and experience. For some ideas and inspiration, check out some of the best locations to shoot your Las Vegas strip photography.

A good photographer will make all the difference in your wedding day, as they will be able to capture beautiful memories for you to look back on for years. So be sure to do your research and pick the right one.

Step Five: Choosing a wedding dress and other details

Choosing a wedding dress and or suit can be a daunting task, as you want to be sure to choose the right one. Throughout the years as a Las Vegas wedding photographer, I’ve noticed that many brides and grooms opt for slightly more casual wedding attire for comfort and to save some money. However, it is entirely up to you and your partner. If you don’t have rings yet, consider getting cheaper placeholder rings and upgrading later.

Other vendors to consider:

  • Hair and makeup
  • Officiant
  • Florals
  • Wedding cake
  • DJ or band
  • Dinner and reception location

The final step in your Las Vegas wedding planning journey is to ensure all the little details are accounted for. Finalize guest lists, and all your payments to vendors, and obtain your marriage license before the ceremony. Get a schedule for the day down on paper and be sure all the little accessories and details are ready. And don’t forget to book a trip for your honeymoon!
